Nutrition Services

Registered Dietitians are experts in food and nutrition who motivate, counsel, and advise patients on what, when and how much to eat and drink, to achieve specific health-related goals and lead a healthy lifestyle. Utilizing a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach, our Dietitians work closely and communicate regularly with other practitioners to identify the nutritional needs of each patient through the care continuum.

Since many digestive diseases often occur before or during adolescence, we focus on correcting nutritional deficiencies essential to normal growth and development. Center physicians conduct a thorough nutritional assessment of all our pediatric patients, looking carefully at vitamin and nutrient levels, caloric intake, and overall well-being. Our nutrition team directs patients toward a sound diet and appropriate nutritional therapies often critical in the prevention or treatment of digestive disorders, as well as in recovery or healing following surgical procedures.

Medical nutrition therapy is provided in both individual visits and group counseling sessions to help address nutritional issues associated with acute and chronic gastrointestinal diseases, side effects of cancer treatments and weight management, wound healing, digestive challenges and anatomical changes associated with surgery. Our Registered Dietitians often speak at patient education events and support groups, as well as contributing articles to the Center for Advanced Digestive Care Patient Newsletter and other publications.

Alissa Lupu RD, CDN, CNSC is a Registered Dietitian specifically devoted to adult medical nutrition therapy for the Center for Advanced Digestive Care. Alissa's expertise in Digestive Diseases and Liver Transplant is supported by the fact that she is a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC). After graduating from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences, Alissa attained her Registered Dietitian licensure through the NYP Dietetic Internship Program.
